IPL Permanent Hair Reduction Treatment
How IPL Permanent Hair Reduction Treatment Works
IPL emits light to the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle, this is absorbed by the melanin and transformed into heat energy that causes necrosis of the hair bulb. The IPL settings will depend on the skin's colour (Skin Fitzpatrick) and hair density. With our device, we can treat dark blonde and red hair as we use a dual handpiece that has both Radio Frequency and IPL technology.
Studies have shown that after a series of treatments, you can expect around 80% hair reduction.

Hair growth has four different phases, and only in the growth phase can we actively treat with IPL for Permanent hair reduction.
Anagen
-
The growth phase, when hair follicles produce hair shafts
-
The longest phase, lasting 2–8 years for scalp hair
-
At any given time, 85–90% of hair follicles are in this phase
Catagen
-
The transition phase, when hair follicles shrink and hair growth slows
-
Lasts about 2 weeks
Telogen
-
The resting phase, when hair doesn't grow but usually doesn't fall out either
-
Lasts about 2–3 months
Exogen
-
The shedding phase, when hair is shed

Clients with light skin and dark hair usually require fewer treatments.

Benefits of IPL for Permanent Hair Reduction Treatment
-
Non-invasive: Cost-effective treatments, minimal downtime recovery time.
-
Minimal Discomfort: Most people experience only mild discomfort, described as a slight sting.
-
Quick Treatment Time: Sessions are typically short, often around 5-30 minutes, depending on the treated area.

Treatment Preparation
Before any treatment, a consultation is required to discuss suitability, we will also require a test patch to ensure the correct parameters are used to provide the best treatment outcome.
Skincare preparation is required, you must shave before your visit.
Light reflects off the skin so the skin must be well-nourished and hydrated in preparation for treatment.
Exfoliating before treatment is also important as dead skin cells can inhibit light-generating the skin.
Avoid any excessive sun exposure or tanning agents four weeks before your booked treatment
Some medications can increase the risk of bruising, please speak to your therapist if you have concerns.

Considerations and Aftercare
-
Immediately post-treatment you can expect to see mild erythema, swelling of the hair follicle and also some temporary darkening of and freckles in the area of treatment.
-
This is a good indication that the treatment has been effective. Not every client will achieve this, but it is a good sign if they do.
-
In the first week post-treatment, hair will appear to continue to grow, this is expected. You can shave or allow the hair to fall out on its own in the second week usually around 7-14 days post-treatment for facial hair and 14-28 days for body hair.
